The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), in collaboration with Daami Youth Development Organization (DYDO), a youth-led organization representing marginalized minority communities in Somaliland, has undertaken a joint initiative aimed at better understanding the challenges, priorities, and aspirations of minority groups. As part of this partnership project, the two organizations conducted a comprehensive Minority Community Needs Assessment to generate evidence that will guide inclusive programming and strengthen community-driven solutions.
The assessment focused on identifying key gaps in access to services, protection concerns, livelihood opportunities, and youth engagement barriers faced by minority populations. Through community consultations, household interviews, focus group discussions, and stakeholder meetings, the assessment captured direct voices and experiences of minority families and youth.
Findings from this assessment will play a critical role in informing future interventions designed to improve social inclusion, enhance resilience, and promote equitable access to opportunities for marginalized minority groups. The partnership between DRC and DYDO reaffirms a shared commitment to empowering minority communities and ensuring that their needs are documented, recognized, and integrated into humanitarian and development planning across Somaliland.
